McWhirter takes the world title again!

Steven McWhirter from Northern Ireland has taken the World Solo Drumming Championship again making this his second successive win in 2 years. That makes the Leading Drummer of Inverary and District a 3 time winner of the biggest event on the solo drumming calendar. Striking up 3 firsts and 3 seconds from the 6 judges made him a clear winner ahead of rival Barry Wilson of Scottish Power who came in runner up. Congratulations to all who competed in the solos which is gaining momentum every year, the standard is just going up and up. Be sure to head to Glasgow in 2013 to see for yourself!

Field Marshal Montgomery have done it again AGAIN!!

The impeccable team from Northern Ireland scraped through this year to hold on to the worlds title for a second year in a row. Boghall and Bathgate had their eyes set on the best drum corp title who were unriveled on the day taking first place in both MSR and Medley components.

Steven McWhirter a clear winner at the 2011 World Solo Drumming Championship

 

Steven took his second world solo title on the weekend impressing all the judges so much that he gained 4 first places and 2 second places from the whole judging panel. This is a phenomenal achievement having stayed in the top 3 for the last 5 years winning his first title in 2006. Blair Brown from Simon Fraser University in Canada was runner up of the prestigious prize and last years winner, Barry Wilson came in third. The RSPBA ran the event again with great success in the Glasgow Caledonian University and if you are able to make it next year, be sure to as this is one BIG event on the Pipe Band Drumming calendar.
